Rub Rail Assembly Line

Date

Laurel drilling out holes I should be used to the prices for “marine” items by now. I guess I’m still having my mind blown. Our old rub rails were made of aluminum and they were pretty tore up from years of overly rambunctious dock pilings. I went to Marine Connection to price them, and, to put it in text lingo, OMG! I would need 7 lengths of 12 foot aluminum rub rail and they cost $95 each! That’s not happening. Instead Laurel’s dad said we should try the recycled decking material. It is hard, plastic and shouldn’t weather. I went to Lowes and bought two 8 foot stripes for $40. Then, while in the shop we cut them in strips, routored the edges and drilled some counter sunk holes every 6 inches. The rails turned out great and installation was smooth with little dab o$40 rub railsf 5200 and two drills (one for drilling holes and one for sinking in the screw). Now we’ll just see how they handle one of those overly rambunctious dock pilings.
