Our last day in Nassau was busy doing chores as usual. We had grocery shopping, water tank filling and laundry to do. After our endless day of chores we figured we would walk over to the Atlantis casino and gamble all our money away. Our max allotted money each was $5. I, myself, being an excellent slots player went for the nickel slots. Actually we both set down and slowly gave our money away until we had one dollar left. We decided to go all in on a dollar slot machine and won $40! CASH US OUT! Great, that paid for my hamburger earlier.
The next morning we left Nassau bound for Eleuthera. Our luck continued and we got some calm weather for crossing. We arrived at Royal Island that afternoon. This would be our home for the next three days while we wait for the strong winds to calm down. Royal Island is a thin but long 4.5 mile long island that had a plantation on it in the 50’s. Now there is only ruins of the old buildings and walls. Although we were there for three days, there was plenty of things to explore and snorkel.
The wind had died down so we headed over towards The Current. The Current is a 65 foot deep cut through Eleuthera to the other side of the island. Supposedly it is a great SCUBA diving place because of the shear drop off and 5 knot current making you fly by things. After The Current we sailed our way to Hatchet Bay. The sail was slow and steady with squalls and choppy conditions. Slopping our way there, we arrived in Hatchet Bay and picked up a free government mooring buoy. Ahh…Time to relax. This will be our home for a week or so while we get some waves and try and figure our some prop issues.
