After leaving Bimini we sailed down to Gun Cay to anchor in Honeymoon Harbor. We made cracked conch tacos and settled in for the night. The next few days were pretty windy and wavy with it even raining one night. We had moved over to Cat Cay to try and get blocked from the weather, no luck. Squalls kept coming in the middle of the night keeping us awake with its wind howling at 30+ knots. Although sleep deprived we made the crossing to The Berry Islands. We sailed most of the crossing over and even caught some lunch, a huge mutton snapper. It was nice getting a little moral booster, we needed it.
We ended up anchoring up in a super nice, protected and calm spot called Bullocks Harbor. There are tons of islands and creeks to go on dinghy adventures to. It’s been a few days now since we anchored up here and have enjoyed checking out the town and getting some time to catch up on some sleep and relaxation. One day we took our bikes to the other side of the island and explored 5-mile beach and the tide pools. Laurel and I were both panting while biking up hills to get over there. It’s funny, the island is 7 miles long and 1/4 mile wide and there are hills. Seriously? There’s our exercise for the week. Today we went on a really long dinghy adventure. It included such highlights as: mangrove creeks, eating crackers, cave searching, lighthouse visiting, creepy houses, running out of gas, wading across sea cucumber fields, eating lunch under a tree, running out of gas, Panton Cove, fixing the carburetor, running out of gas and praying we would make it back to the boat on only gas fumes. Now that’s an adventure. Tomorrow, our plan is to head around the island and anchor down at Soldier Cay. It’s time to start moving south.
