And…we’re back

Date

Wow, it really does feel like it was yesterday when we were months before leaving and working our tails off prepping the boat. And, I can definitely say that time really does fly when your having fun. After arriving back from the Bahamas we stayed in Sebastian at our old haunt near Sebastian Inlet. The sail into the anchorage was really fun with strong wind and smooth water. That week or so in Sebastian was spent cleaning stuff off the boat, hanging out with friends and family and juggling cars and scooters back to Ft Pierce. Since Laurel is back teaching in Tradition, we made our way back to Ft Pierce to get a slip again at Ft Pierce Inlet Marina. On our way down we stopped out in front of Rich and Sarah’s place on the river for Rich’s son Trace’s 5th birthday party. We had a good time until we woke the next morning on the boat with it tilted to one side. Apparently the wind switched to west unannounced in the middle of the night and swung us onto sandbar. We tried for 15 or 20 minutes to winch ourselves up to the anchors and use the main halyard and dinghy to tilt the boat, but with out transom a foot out of the water it was apparent we would have to wait for the tide. Sure enough, after breakfast with Sarah the boat was back afloat again.

So after severing the umbilical cord in March it was time to reattach it 6 months later. It feels different this time though, the dependency on the cord is not as it was. Like the cord has waned and the trip has made us and the boat grow stronger. It feels weird being back; fast pace, convenience everywhere and poop tea colored water that I am not too keen to swim in. You would think we would have had culture shock going to the Bahamas but it was the opposite, the culture shock happened on the return home. Everyone over there is on a different schedule and vibe. A vibe that a simple man like me really likes.
