Exumas – Round 2

Date

DSCN2469We left Long Island early and made our way down wind back to the Exumas. This time we went around the back side of Great Exuma. It was nice to finally have the wind in our favor. We cruised 6+ knots all day making 50 miles. After rounding the northern end of Great Exuma we headed into Barraterre to pick up Steve and Kyla. It was fun having another couple around to experience the southern Exumas with. We saw the pigs, iguanas, snorkeled some amazing coral reefs and ate tons of seafood, thanks to Steve.

Steve caught some Lion Fish one day and we cooked it over a fire on an island. We also did a few drift snorkels through cuts and creeks. In six days we crammed a couple weeks worth of activities.

DSCN2524I think it’s safe to say we all had a great time. The winds are finally in our favor now that we made our turn back north. You heard that right, the turn back north has been made. Not that we are going to be home soon, but we will be home when the trades get us home.

The last couple days we have been at Staniel Cay. We showed up the day of the Lion Fish Derby. The winner caught 147 Lion Fish and the largest was 13 inches! They even had a Lion Fish cook off and we were able to eat some great food cooked by professional cooks.

We met two boats with younger people on board, Nick and Hilary on Tara and Jessie and Katie on Louise, and have enjoyed hanging out with them. Last night we had pizza night on our boat. I even made pineapple-mango cheese cake for dessert. Also, it seems that we are some of the only people that do not have business cards. So….. I made up some fancy schmancy ones to give to our new friends.

Some more good news, we just heard from our good friends Anthony and Katelin and it sounds like they may be flying over to the Abacos for a week. The same time the Cheeseburger Party is…
