The Berry’s to Nassau

Date

DSCN1963The rest of the Berry’s was amazing. Some super great anchorages and exploring. From Bullocks Harbor we went around to Soldier Cay. Soldier Cay had alot of swell that came in but didn’t bother us too much. The next day we wormed our way through all the sandbars and anchored up behind Hoffman Cay. This, so far, was our favorite spot. No one was there, just us, plus, there was a beautiful beach and huge blue hole on the island. We set up camp on the beach; beach chairs, DSCN1977umbrella, hammocks and a camp fire to cook some potatoes. The blue hole was a short walk away. We were able to dive off the cliff into the water and enjoy the view of the island from the top. After two days of relaxing and not wanting to leave, we made our way further south to Bonds Cay. The inside route of the Berry’s is a little hairy in some spots because it is really shallow and the tide drop is 2 or 3 feet, so if you get stuck then you are stuck till the next full moon. Fortunately we skimmed DSCN1991over all the 4 foot bars. Laurel and I got to snorkel, eat more fish and conch and walk pristine empty beaches.

A few days at Bonds Cay also spoiled us. The rocks were teaming with fish and conch for our picking. It was time to leave though, our weather window for crossing over to Nassau was now. A nice east wind would bring us over perfectly. And so we left and had a very nice 7 to 8 knot crossing. The seas were calm for a change and we arrived in Nassau a few hours ago. All the guides we read advised us to get a dock slip because of all the traffic in the harbor. I am glad we did. There is tons of boat wake and debris at the bottom. Now we can swim in the pool, take showers, do laundry, send emails and resupply our fruits and veggies. Also, now that we will have internet, anyone wanting to get a hold of us, the next couple of days will be the best.
